Breaking News (18:17 GMT)

BBC Radio 2's David Barber has resigned following last week's disciplinary action against offensive prank calls made by Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross, according to the BBC News Channel.

Barber is the second BBC executive to resign in the past two weeks after last Thursday's resignation by Radio 2 controller, Leslie Douglas.

He will step down from his role as head of specialist music and compliance.

A spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that Dave Barber has resigned from the BBC."

US funding Iranian nukes

Nov

As it turns out, US is indirectly funding the research and creation of the ever-so-controversial nuclear reactors. These reactors, stated to be with a peaceful purpose by the Iranian govt., are suspected to start producing plutonium for military purposes.

The US finance is indirect, because it is funneled through the Russian scientists, working in Iran. After the cold war, Russian scientists were employed by the US, to prevent the scientists starting work for rogue countries.

If anyone needs a beach-box...

Nov

If anyone needs a beach-box to interview people/vox-pop or whatever then give me a ring (07533636424) as I don't think there are any left on campus and I doubt we'll have access to Richard's office over the weekend, anyway.

Don't forget to press record!

Nov

I had such a moment of panic walking home with my camera today, when I thought 'did I press record at the start of that conversation'? When Jaak and I were Vox Popping in the first couple of weeks we lost a whole interview cuz we hadn't pressed record, luckily I had today.

I just thought I'd say to everyone: take your time when you're setting up for your interviews, because one little mistake like that could lose you so much work.

Good luck everybody! (sorry I didn't come for fireworks tonight, I had to do that summary for Ken. Last minute as ever...)

Video assignment: where you need to be

Nov
06

For all of you working on your video news package assignment, I thought it might be worth giving you some guidance on where you need to be in the process. By the start of the teaching session on Monday you ideally should have nailed your interviews and know what your story is. Finding the focus of your story is the key now. There won't be a lot of point in spending time getting GVs until you've done this - they can always be added later. If you haven't got that focus yet, come and see me or Richard and we'll be happy to give some guidance on where to look and who to call.

 "Change has come to America"

How To Wash Properly

Nov

No, not yourself, but your car. Recently I was shocked to find out the amount of damage that can be done to a cars paintwork by following the age-old tradition of plonking a sponge in a bucket of warm water and then dragging it over the body. Or even worse visiting your local Shell garage to pay £5 for that 'ultra clean' look. In reality, this appearance is farcical when examined in the sunlight. The image below shows a typical paint surface, visible on millions of cars because of the wrong technique employed in the washing stage:
